Peter Jackson Mungoma, who led Capital Radio Group from 2014, is taking on a broader leadership job as the broadcaster becomes part of Next Media. His appointment as deputy group chief executive officer and chief of radio places a longtime radio executive within the leadership of the expanded media business, according to Nile Post Uganda (direct).

Next Media Group CEO Kin Kariisa introduced Mungoma to staff at the company’s Next Media Talks event. The appointment follows Capital Radio Group’s integration into Next Media, bringing radio, television, digital platforms and production capabilities together within the enlarged group. Mungoma will help lead that wider business while also taking responsibility for radio.

Bringing two sets of strengths together

For Mungoma, the combination is about more than a change in location or working arrangements. Addressing Next Media staff, he thanked the leadership and employees for their welcome and described the integration as a chance to put the two organisations’ different strengths to work together. His message focused on what their combined resources could make possible, rather than simply the mechanics of joining operations.

“It’s about what becomes possible when two powerful media brands come together,” Mungoma said.

He described Capital Radio Group’s contribution as its established audiences, people and broadcasting heritage. Next Media, he said, brings technology, digital platforms, production capacity and investment. Those are the resources the expanded group now has to work with across its media operations. His remarks presented the combination as an opportunity to connect an established radio business with Next Media’s wider capabilities.

Mungoma’s experience at Capital Radio covered audience development, commercial growth, partnerships and corporate governance—the way a company is directed and overseen. As chief executive from 2014, he managed its operations through a period of substantial change in the media industry. His work spanned both conventional broadcasting and digital platforms, giving his new role continuity with the business he previously led.

A mandate beyond radio

His professional background also extends outside broadcasting. Mungoma has more than 20 years of experience across media, telecommunications, consulting, renewable energy and the automotive industry. He has held senior management and advisory roles across East Africa, with work covering entry into new markets, business development, commercial strategy and organisational growth. That experience accompanies a position that includes supporting the leadership of the group, not just its radio activities.

Mungoma holds a bachelor of arts degree and an MBA in marketing from Makerere University. He has also undertaken executive education at Harvard Business School and earned international radio marketing certifications from the Radio Advertising Bureau in Dallas, Texas. His background combines experience running a broadcasting company with training in marketing and management.

The next focus is how the expanded business puts its combined capabilities to use. Mungoma’s responsibilities include building stronger teams and strategic partnerships, developing systems for assessing performance and supporting sustainable growth across the group’s media operations. Those tasks set out the practical work ahead: helping the integrated organisation operate and grow, alongside his leadership of radio.
